  •     The Department of Adult Continuing Education, Extension and Field Out-reach of Kuvempu University has come into existence in February 2000 as a part of educational Planning in the Ninth Five Year Plan. The objectives of this Department, in comprehensive terms may be summed up as the following:

    1 While accepting the philosophy of continuing education as an integral part of the total education programme, the attempt is to bring closer integration between formal and non-formal education and out of school learning process.
    2 Reaching out to the needy sections of the society through the adult continuing educational avenue for the purpose of equalisation of educational opportunities, thereby enhancing societal growth.
    3 Enriching the learning process of the faculty and students through exposure to community needs, problems, issues and socio-economic as well as cultural practices by way of field-work and out-reach activities.
    4 Striving to make educational content relevant to the needs of the learners by way of community feedback, community contacts and discussion with experts.
    5 Attending to issues like adult literacy, school drop-outs, non-enrolment, stagnation, child labour, gender discrimination, population education, community health communal harmony, cultural integration, human rights, etc.

    Future Expansions/Diversification Plans :
    1 Offering Certificate courses in areas beneficial to those who are deprived of formal education. Preparations are under way for starting courses for:
      i Self Help Group
      ii Elected Members of Panchayat Raj
      iii NGOs
    2 To undertake research in the field of:
      i Continuing Education
      ii Empowerment of Women
      iii Community Learning Programme
    3 To expand Counseling and Career Guidance Cell so that students and the public will benefit.
    4 To start E-learning Courses.
     
    Placements :

    The Guidance and Counseling Cell has been setup in the Department of Adult Continuing Education, Extension and Field Out-reach, Kuvempu University. Students of all Post-Graduate departments have been informed to make use of the Cell. In addition the counselor is also visiting hostels every week.

    The Guidance and Counseling Cell is planning to offer training to college teachers to set up similar cell in their respective colleges. A letter to this effect has already been sent to all colleges.

    A detailed plan has been prepared to provide necessary information to the students about job opportunities both in private and public sector. A list of experts in this area has been prepared. They will be invited to address the students and help them in their placement. This programme will commence from the beginning of the next academic year.
