PRASARANGA
Prasaranga, the publication and extension
wing of the University plays a key role in
disseminating knowledge and in building a
bridge between the academic world and the
society at large. The varied activities of
the prasaranga are mainly of three kinds:
1. Publication – of informative booklets on
socially relevant subjects, proceedings of
the seminars and symposia, monographs by
eminent scholars and Kuvempu University
Newsletter (a quarterly publication in
English and Kannada) and The Journal of
Science.
2. Extension activities - Lectures by the
University faculty members on social,
scientific and literary subjects organised
in rural and mofussil places as a part of
reaching out to all sections of the society.
The “ARIVU” (knowledge) extension lecture
series of Kuvempu University Prasaranga have
received enthusiastic response everywhere.
3. Special Lectures / Seminars and Symposia
- Prasaranga organises special lectures by
eminent scholars and seminars on topical
issues throughout the academic year. The
publications of the Prasaranga are
reasonably priced and in a format and style
which makes them accessible to all sections
of readers. |

HEALTH
CENTRE
The University has a well
equipped Health Centre with sufficient Male
& Female doctors who are assisted by the
necessary staff. The centre has an out
patient wing and in patients beds. The
health centre has the preliminary diagnostic
facilities and on line ECG/ Medical advise
support of Narayana Hrudalaya is
established. An ambulance is also available
at the centre.

DIRECTORATE
OF STUDENT WELFARE
Kuvempu University
has maintained an excellent student friendly
ambience and assigns top priority to student
welfare. A directorate of student welfare
has been established to plan and monitor
student welfare activities. Presently headed
by a faculty member, the directorate plays a
key role in award of scholarships and
fellowships to students, in organising
career guidance and consultancy programmes.
A special feature is that every year 20
students are deputed to attend the cultural
camp organised by Neenasam, Heggodu, a
nationally known centre for theatrical and
cultural activities. |

SC, ST CELL &
OBC CELL
The Scheduled Castes and
Scheduled Tribes Cell has been established
to provide special assistance to both
students and staff belonging to the
scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The
convener and the members of the cell are
from the faculty. The cell sanctions
fellowships and scholarships to SC, ST, &
OBC research students and also monitors the
implementation of reservation and other
policies and measures meant to help persons
belonging to the scheduled castes and
scheduled tribes. The Cell also organises
special remedial classes and coaching
classes for the competitive examinations. |

NATIONAL
SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)
Kuvempu University NSS wing is rated as one of the best in
Karnataka State. There is a programme
coordinator whose office is presently housed
in front of the Sahyadri College, Shimoga.
The NSS wing provides training to the
under-graduate students by organising annual
camps, national camps and socially useful
programmes. It also coordinates the adult
literacy programmes in which the students
participate actively. The NSS Wing has won a
number of awards at the State and higher
levels including the “Best University in NSS”.
The Post-Graduate unit of NSS has students
from the Post-Graduate departments on the
campus. It is supervised by a co-ordinator
(from the faculty) and his team. |

SPORTS &
INDOOR STADIUM
Inter - Collegiate
Competitions in almost all the games and aports are organised regularly, in which
maximum number of students from the
affiliated colleges are participating. About
25 teams in various sports disciplines are
taking part in the Inter University
competitions. The Director of Physical
Educations supervises collegiate sports
activities. Sports activities for the
Post-Graduate students are organised by the
P.G. Sports Secretary under the supervision
of Director of Physical
Education. |

The University has established a well equipped
Indoor Sports Complex, which is having
facilities for all indoor games including
Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Gymnastics and
modern Multi Gymnasium. Apart from this, it
houses office of the Director of Physical
Education. Secretary of P.G. Sports Section,
Chairman and Class rooms for both M.P.Ed.
and B.P.Ed. Courses. This also accomplished
with 24 well furnished dwelling rooms with
attach bath. The construction of a outdoor
stadium is in progress. |

STUDENT
HOUSING
There are two Post-Graduate
men’s hostels and two women’s hostel on the
main campus. The working omen hostel on the
campus also provides accommodation to
students and research scholars. The hostel
for students belonging to backward
Classes and Minorities established near the
main campus by the State Government provides
hostel facility exclusively for the
Post-Graduate students of the University.
Plans are underway to construct
international hostels.

UNIVERSITY
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE BUREAU
In order to help students plan their
career and seek placement, the Employment
Information and Guidance Bureau has been
established on the campus. It functions
under the supervision of a Director who is
from the faculty and assisted by the deputy
chief and assistant chief who are appointed
by the government. The Bureau circulates
information regarding employment
opportunities, competitive examinations, UGCJRF and National Eligibility Test, State
Level Eligibility Test etc. It also
organises employment counselling sessions.
The Post-Graduate students, on completion of
the P.G. Degrees are required to register at
the Bureau. In order to motivate the student
community towards the competitive
examinations the bureau organises free
coaching classes for various competitive
examinations such as I.A.S., K.A.S., Banking
and Staff Selection Commission. |

STUDENT
COUNSELLING
Kuvempu University has
introduced student counselling at different
levels. Apart from the course counseling
during admissions there is also continuous
expert counselling for students to help them
overcome their problems. |

PLACEMENT
Many Post Graduate departments of the university have been organising campus interviews to help students to find placement. The university has now
established a full fledged Placement Cell in order to monitor placement services for the students. |

CIVIL
SERVICES EXAMINATIONS TRAINING
In
order to motivate students to seek administrative careers and to equip them to
face the exams, the university organises training for civil services and other
competitive examinations. The training includes counseling and essential skill
development apart from academic guidance. |

CANTEEN FACILITIES
There is a well furnished canteen on the campus with a seating capacity of 50. Catering is
available during the working hours of the University. |

UNIVERSITY GUEST HOUSE
The location of the Guest House is scenically attractive. It is situated
on a hillock overlooking the backwaters of the Bhadra reservoir. It provides an elegant view of
the entire project area. It is fully air-conditioned and has excellent catering facilities. |

EXTRA -
CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The University assigns high priority to extra curricular activities on the campus. These
activities are organised by the Extra-Curricular Activities Association which consists of a coordinator from the
faculty and student representatives from all the Post-Graduate departments. A highlight of the activitiesis the annual youth festival (Sahyadri Festival) meant for
students of the affiliated colleges and the P.G. Departments. Participants selected here represent the University at interuniversity youth festivals. |

THE FACULTY
CLUB
The Faculty Club has been established for
organizing programmes of academic interest
for the members of the teaching faculty.
Special lectures by eminent scholars,
scientists and statesmen are organised
throughout the year. The lectures are
followed by discussions in which the faculty
members participate. In addition colloquia
are organised under arts and science
faculties separately every month in which
teachers make presentations on their current
areas of research in the presence of an
invited expert in the field. This helps the
faculty members to share insights from the
research work being carried out. |

LANGUAGE LAB
To train the
students towards proficiency in
English and other foreign language a
modern fully computerized language
lab has been established in the
Academic Block. Trained instructors
are provided to guide the students.
The students are expected to get the
proficiency to face the global
challenges. |
